Today, we're excited to give a little peek into a new collection and the inspiration. Join us as we share lovely creations made using Candlewick Sampler.
Since the age of 12 Becca has loved fiber - she quilts, knits, crochets, does cross stitch and before becoming a Licensed Die Designer sewed most of her own clothes. Fascinated with intricate textures and the look of laces, fabrics, and embroidery, Becca tried to replicate the look and feel of those textures in dies. Candlewicking has such a distinct look and Becca thrilled at the prospect of getting that look and feel into a die. The Inspiration Behind Candlewick Sampler
Candlewicking is a type of whitework embroidery normally done on cream or white fabric embellished with cream or white french knots. The series of french knots create the outlines of the pattern giving it a unique look while adding a touch of elegance. In these dies, you can see rounded motifs that hint at the texture of dots. Without overpowering, it's a sweet little detail present on all the dies in the collection. Plus, it just happens to be the perfect spot to place a pearl. Google candlewicking and you'll see exactly what we mean.
My Projects For Today
Here is what the plate actually looks like.
For my project today I made a card that has Exquisite Topper cut on top and bottom of a piece of cream card stock.
I used one of the edge dies to cut the shaped pieces in the center. I really like that I can use the edges cutting dies separated from the intricate die! I repeated that three times to make graduated center pieces - olive, cream and olive. To achieve the multiple colors showing from behind the cream piece, I added pieces of dark maroon and olive. They are cut with straight so simple to do. The placement allows only a tiny bit of maroon to show next to the olive color. If you look close, you'll see that. To get multiple colors at the scallop edges, I used the the scallop edge die alone to cut an edge on a narrow piece of card stock. I layered them behind the cream edge.
To finish the card, I added a verse stamped and heat embossed with cream embossing powder. It's popped up on the center of the card. I made three cream flowers cut with the new Cinch and Go Rosebud die set. Each flower was shaped and cream stamens added to the centers. Olive leaves and a silk ribbon are tucked behind the flowers.
The card is 5 x 7 inches.
For my Second Project, I made a card with a pocket with verse insert. This is simply a flat card and does not open.
To make the pocket, I used the edge cutting die that fits along top of Exquisite Topper as I have it on the card. If you look closely, you'll see a tan edge showing at top of pocket. That's the cut made into the background paper. I cut Exquisite Topper from maroon card stock using all three dies - intricate design and both edges. Then I cut a cream background using only the edge dies. These I spaced apart to allow it to be longer at each edge and show as a border. I cut separate maroon and pick edges to layer behind. This piece fits right along the pocket edge. There are a couple small pieces of maroon at each edge of pocket with satin ribbon over them.
I added a flower layered over a piece ribbon. Flower pieces were cut with Cinch and Go V and colored with Distress Oxide Spun Sugar. This card is 5 x 6.5 inches.
To make the insert, I cut the cream paper a width to easily fit in the pocket. Then I used the scallop edge die to cut the top. I also cut a strip of maroon with scallop edge to make a border which is fastened behind. I stamped the greeting near top with Versafine Clair Chianti ink. I stamped the verse a bit lower to be hidden in the pocket.
