Spellbinders Springtime Shipping Frenzy – Day #1

Hello Blog Friends!!!! 
A warm welcome to everyone and especially to all you Spellbinders® fans coming to check out today’s Shipping Frenzy project!  Today, I’m excited to share a project that showcases some of the new A Gilded Life products.  If you aren’t familiar with Spellbinders A Gilded Life products, check them out on their  website HERE.   Good News!  This incredible line of products can be found in a Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Store near you the week of April 6th!
 I know you’re all scrolling down to see the project……so here it is!
 


This small handmade album has been decorated using A Gilded Life dies, bezels and texture plates.  The album is 5 ¾ x 7 ½ʺ with cardstock pages.  The supply list is after the directions.

Here are the directions....

Cut stiff chipboard covers: 2 - ⅞ x 7 ½ʺ; 2 – 5 x 7 ½ʺ
Align one of each piece with ⅛ʺ gap.  Place hinge tape over gap and cover pieces wrapping it to cover both sides.  Repeat for other cover.
 
Apply PVA glue to front of one cover.  Glue rice paper over cover.  Wrap to inside and glue mitering corners.  Use bone folder to press paper into gap.  (I used rice paper as a first layer because it’s strong and I wanted the cover to be durable.  This step could be eliminated.)  Repeat for other cover
Again use PVA glue to fasten mulberry paper to both covers.  Wrap to inside and glue.

Cut Kraft card stock a little smaller than cover for inside.  Align on cover and mark fold/gap.  Score cardstock.  Use Xyron to apply permanent adhesive to one side.  Fasten to inside of cover.  Repeat for other cover.
 
Ink French Script texture plate with Memento Luxe Rich Cocoa and press against covers just as you would a stamp. 
 
 

Rub VersaMagic Pixie Dust direct to paper  over Kraft card stock

Cut with Grand Calibur® machine: Vintage Brocade rectangle.  Cut/emboss Rose Medallion and 2 – Quatrefoil Bands.


Use Wrought Iron texture plate to emboss rectangle.
 
Apply Metallic Lustre to all pieces starting with Champagne Ice.  Then add touches of Gold Rush.  Finally add just a touch of Iced Espresso.  I used that mostly on the Quatrefoil bands.   I rub the Metallic
Lustre on with my finger.  (The easiest way to clean it off your finger is to press against sticky side of tape)


 
Apply 2ʺ Scor-Tape to Kraft card stock.  Tape Petite Monarch die over Scor-Tape.  Cut using Junior Metal Shim, base plate and pink embossing plate.  The Scor-Tape backing is very tough to cut.  The metal shim makes it cut easier. 
 
Remove tape backing.  Sprinkle with Vintage Glass Glitter.  Press glitter into tape. 
 
 
Then sprinkle with Flax glitter and remove excess.  Because the Vintage Glass is quite coarse there are gaps between so the Flax glitter fills in those spaces.
 
Fasten Quatrefoil Bands to spine area of each cover with Scor-Tape.  I also used glue along the edges.
 Fasten embossed rectangle along right edge with craft glue.
Fasten Rose Medallion strip over rectangle using Scor-Tape and glue.  Place it about ¼ʺ from left edge of rectangle.
 

Glue glittered Petite Monarch piece along left edge of rectangle.  (I forgot a photo, see on album cover
 
 
 Glue gathered tulle along Rose Medallion with 3 in 1 Craft Glue. 
 
Thread gold cord through organdy trim. Glue it over edge of tulle trim.
Stitch rhinestone band to trim at top & bottom.
 
 
Cut organdy heart with Hearts die.  Use metal shim sandwich to cut it.
 
 
String pearls on thread.  (I used 26) Knot thread. Glue to edge of organdy.
 
Place glue around outer edges Hearts Bezel Small – Bronze.  Press organdy heart and pearls into bezel.
 
 
Make small tassel with pearl cotton.  Wrap wire around top. Fasten to bezel with pearl cotton.
 
 
Glue Rhinestone in gold spacer bead.  Glue in bezel.Tie bezel to trim on album front.  Add crystals and pearls along points of glittered Petite Monarch strip.
 

Cut pages 5 ¾ x 7 ¼ʺ from cream card stock. 

 
Cut 1 x 7¼ʺ strips to add to envelopes.  Fasten to bottom edge of envelope with Scor-Tape so they are same size as pages.  Emboss envelope flaps.
 
Punch two holes in edge of each cover.  Insert and set bronze eyelets.
Mark pages for holes.  Punch holes in all pages and envelopes



Stack covers and pages.  Thread ribbons through front eyelet, pages and back cover and back through back cover, pages and out front cover.  I used a piece of wire folded to slip over ribbon ends.  It works like a needle only easier to slip ribbon into it.  Tie in bow.


Voila!   A beautiful album!

Flowers Feed the Soul Journal

No jewelry in this post but I did use more Spellbinders Media Mixage™ products!
 
This is a project I did for Spellbinders.  You can find it on their website here.  There's even a link to download the instructions.
 
My inspiration was to make a garden journal.  A place for notes about  anything gardening!  Since I made the journal with my Bind-It-All machine, I added envelopes as dividers between the pages. A spot to tuck in a seed packet or info about a new plant.  
 

The aqua flower inside the dark blue flower is a Spellbinders blank from MB6-004 Flowers One.  There's another one peaking out from under the pink flower. The blanks are gold color.  I used ink to color it with clear embossing powder over it.  The other flowers are paper, inked and clear heat embossed.  I used MD2-004 Flowers One matching set of dies to cut
those.
The label was cut with another Media Mixage die, MD2-001 Frames One.  I inked through the die and then stamped the verse.

The butterfly is the larger blank from MB6-008 Butterflies One.  I used the matching die set, MD2-008 Butterflies One to cut the paper for the wings.  The paper is white cardstock colored with pigment inks and clear heat embossed. There's a touch of gold embossing powder sprinkled over top and heated into the clear.  I hand cut a piece of paper to make the "body" of the butterfly and glued it to the blank.

Nesties Besties Blog Hop

Good Morning!!!!

I chose my Flowers Feed the Soul Journal to show today! 

This journal features some of the Media Mixage blanks and matching die templates.  You can find downloadable directions for this book on Spellbinders website here.  I'm not going to repeat all the directions since they are available to download.
 
 

 
The butterfly is a metal blank from SPellbinders Butterflies One blank set.  It has paper pieces glued to the wings.  I  cut the paper with the Sellbinders die template:   Spellbinders™ Butterflies One which matches the blank set.  To add color,  I've applied pigment ink and heat embossed it with clear.  I sprinkled a touch of gold embossing powder over top and heated it.
 
 
The little paper flowers were cut with Spellbinders™ Flowers One die template set.  Two of the flowers are metal blanks: one is peaking out from under the pink flower and the other is the center aqua flower on the big blue flower.  It's colored with ink and heat embossed with clear.  These are part of the set Spellbinders™ Flowers One blanks set. 
 
I've also used a Media Mixage die template set for the verse label - Spellbinders Frames One.  I inked through the die to add the shading around the edges.  The verse is from Flourishes stamp set "From the Garden".
 
 The background rectangle and frame were cut with Spellbinders™ S5-171 A2 Round Corner Basics A.  I used 2 dies nested together to cut the frame.  The frame has been embossed with
M-Bossabilities So Trendy.   I stamped a branch from Penny Black's "A Wish for Peace" clear set with black ink, and then added nail polish to the dots on the branches.   I stamped the same branch on the book cover.
 
The journal itself has chipboard covers covered with light Kraft packing paper and designer paper on the inside. I added My Mind's Eye paper to the outside of the covers.  Inside, there are pages for notes and sketches as well as envleopes that divide the paper sections and add a place to tuck seeds and garden notes.

Discovering Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum Scrapbook Page

It's been crunch week for me!  Time to get my February Spellbinders projects finished and submitted.  Much as I work on them all month, it seems to always come down to the last day to finish the last project.  So........no time to create anything special for my blog!  But I do have a scrapbook page to share!
In August, my daughter and I took my grandchildren to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum in Walnut Grove, Minnesota.  It's not far from my home.  For those who may not know, I'm the postmaster in Walnut Grove so I'm there every week day.  The museum is just a block away from the post office.  As close as it is, I hadn't actually went through the museum until last August! 
The kids loved it. There are lots of hands-on displays.  There are several buildings to explore including a church, school, farm house, dug out and museum. They especially enjoyed the general store with play food, pots, pans, cash register, etc.  There's even a post office in that building!

This is the scrapbook page I created with photos of the kids in the covered wagon. 

I chose Kraft paper for the background because I wanted the page to have an old feel.  There are numerous hexagons cut from Graphic 45 Kraft Reflections paper across the page.  Many of them blend into the page.  Around the hexagons, I stamped the same design as the black floral die cuts.  To do that, I simply cut a piece of sticky back craft foam with Fantastic Flourish One die template.  I stuck the foam die cut to an acrylic block and used it as a stamp! 
The titles under the photos are written on old ledger paper that I coated with ICE Resin. The ICE Resin seals the paper, adds a little shine and makes it somewhat translucent.  Really cool effects on paper.  And it's waterproof!
I added a lilttle texture to the corners of the page.  To do that, I placed the paper fully into the Bricks and Bark folder.  I placed the folder between the Spellbinder Base plate and Raspberry plate at an angle.  I started rolling the plates through the Grand Calibur machine.  They didn't go far before the paper(because it's too wide to go through) touched the machine. That's as far as I went!  I backed the plates out.  The corner is all the got embossed. I repeated that for each corner. I rubbed ink over the embossed area to accent it. 
I cut 4 of the Fantastic Flourish One from black card stock.  I used one complete flourish along with pieces cut apart on each side of the photos.
The title is made with sticker letters from Cosmo Cricket.  The letters for "Past" were a different color.  I colored them with a black permanent marker to work for my page.

Spellbinders™ Spring Blog Hop and Giveaway Day 2

Since today is May Day, I have some little May baskets to share with you!


I created the patterned paper for each basket using a Letter Press technique with Spellbinders™ Grand Impressabilities. The baskets were cut with the Square Petal Top Box die template only I curled the petals open. I added a handle and a cute tag. Believe it or not, these are quite easy!

First of all, I’ll show you how to make the letter press paper that I used for each of the baskets. I chose to do 3 colors and mix and match the handles, tags and base of my baskets. Each basket, including base box, handle and tag require just one 8 ½ x 11” piece of cardstock and a sheet of text or printer paper which is optional.


We’ll start with Grand Impressabilities Flower Delight, 2 magnet sheets, Colorbox Petal Point Enchantment ink and re-inkers for the pink, heliotrope, and mint plus white cardstock and text weight paper (printer paper).


I cover my work surface with plain newsprint. On that I place the 2 magnet sheets one on top of the other face up. These will hold the Grand Impressabilities in place while I ink it. I discovered 2 magnets are much stronger than one and really hold my paper and Grand Impressabilities together tightly! Next, I place a piece of cardstock (or text weight paper ) on top of the magnet. The Flower Delight Grand Impressabilities lies on top of the paper.


The magnet holds the Grand Impressabilities tightly in place so the paper under it will have a stenciled pattern of the Flower Delight. I dab the ink over the Grand Impressabilities using one of the Colorbox Petal Point inks. I use a twisting motion as well to work the ink into the small spaces of the flower centers. The goal is to ink the Grand Impressabilities! The stenciled sheet is a bonus!


In this photo, you can see the inked Flower Delight Impressabilities as well as the stenciled paper that was under it. A bonus sheet for another project! After it’s all inked, I place it on the Grand Calibur base plate with a sheet of newsprint over my base plate (under the Impressabilities) to catch any excess ink and keep my base plate clean. Next step is to carefully lay a piece of white cardstock over the Impressabilities. Once it’s in place, I hold it in place with one hand while I lay the embossing mat over it. Place the pink embossing plate on top. Hold the sandwich snuggly together and run it through the Grand Calibur™ machine.


The letter pressed sheet! The inked pattern is crisp and embossed! The actual inking of the Grand Impressabilities takes a little time, but the whole letter press process is really quite easy! Because I used a pigment ink, the Grand Impressabilities still has enough ink for a second generation print. The second time I use text weight paper which is on the inside of my baskets. Repeat the sandwich layers - base plate, newsprint, Grand Impressabilities, text weight paper, embossing mat and pink plate. Run it through the Grand Calibur machine.


The result will be a very pastel letter press sheet. I used my Xyron with Permanent adhesive to fasten the text weight paper to the back of the letter press cardstock sheet. I was able to easily cut both layers with the Petal Top Box die template and the Grand Calibur machine for my baskets.

Now we’re ready to make a basket!


These are the die templates for the basket and tag: Square Petal Top Box & Dahlia

 First, cut the Petal Top Box on the dark side of the letter press paper with text paper backing.

(I forgot to take a photo of this step earlier so this photo shows a stencil pattern paper rather than the letter press paper.)
By laying the Petal Top Box die template very close to one end, there will be enough paper leftover for the handles and tag. Cut but do not emboss the Petal Top Box!


I chose not to emboss the box template with the Grand Calibur machine because I didn’t want the emboss line across the petals. Instead, I scored the lines for folding with my Scor-Pal and stylus. No score lines across the petals!


Make all the folds. Before assembly, curl the petal edges by rolling the paper over a round pencil. Use 1/2” Scor-Tape to fasten the box together.


Cut 2 – 1 x 7 ½” strips from the leftover paper to make the handle. I used ½” Scor-Tape™ to fasten the ends together with about a 2” lap to form a 1 x 13” strip. I added 2 strips of Scor-Tape at each end of the handle to fasten it inside the basket.


For the tag, cut Dahlia #2 out of the letter press leftovers. Stamp the verse on a scrap of white cardstock with black ink. Then align the Dahlia #1 die template around the verse, tape in place, and cut. Fasten them together and punch a 1/8” hole at the top. Use Pearl Cotton to tie tag to the basket handle.


Tie a ribbon bow around the basket handle near the tag.

Thread pearl cotton in 4 buttons. Fasten one to each side of basket edges.


Voila! A basket!!

The finishing touch is tissue cut with a scalloped edge. I used Spellbinders Grand Scalloped Squares #6 to cut 6 pieces at the same time! I used 2 sheets in each basket.


These baskets can easily be filled with candies, a tiny gift or a tiny plant. I chose tiny Violas to fill each of my baskets. I tucked 2 plants into a Styrofoam cup that I had trimmed short. The tissue paper hides the cups. The little flowers are so cute peaking around the tags and handles!!!
