Blue Swirl Birthday Card

Today, I have a Blue Swirl Birthday Card to share.  I used Spellbinders Swirl Background and Oh Happy Day die sets for this card.  I didn't even think as I made this card that it would post on my Mom's birthday.  So I'm dedicating this post  is to my Mom who is celebrating her 88th birthday today! 

To make this card, form 4.5 x 6 inch card from beige cardstock.

Apply Adhesive Sheets 6 x 12 inch to back of brown cardstock. Then die cut with S5-366 Swirl Background. Fasten it to blue cardstock that's cut just a bit larger for a narrow reveal.  

Stamp "Happy Birthday" from Oh Happy Day stamp and die set on beige tag cut with Oh Happy Day die.  Ink edges.  Tuck seam binding end into tag hole.  Fasten tag over swirl back ground with 3D Foam Squares – White Mix.. Wrap seam binding to back and fasten.

Fasten background with tag to card front using E-Z Dots® Permanent Refillable Dispenser.  

Attach flower with  3D Foam Circles White Mix . Tie bow in seam binding.  Slide bow of pearl cotton through loop of seam binding bow.  Fasten beneath flower and next to tag end with Adhesive Dots Medium.   Add stick pin with bead.

Elegant Swirl Birthday Card

Good Morning!  It's Sunday and time for another Amazing Paper Grace project.  Today, I've used Sweetheart Swirl dies along with Cascading Grace to make an Elegant Swirl Birthday Card.

 

I've used Cougar Natural cardstock for 5 x 7 inch card base. The layers from card up are shiny gold metallic cardstock, then Cougar Natural.  Next is a green shaped layer cut with Cascading Grace

outer edge die.  Layered onto it are die cut pieces at the corners.  These were cut with a label die from Cascading Grace.  I cut each label in half to use each end at a corner.  The paper had Adhesive Sheets 4 x 6 inch applied to the back before cutting.  That makes it so easy to fasten it in place on my card! The cut ends of the labels are covered by swirl oval.

 



I used the edge die from Sweetheart Swirl to cut patterned paper. I really like that I can use just the edge die to cut a solid piece for a mat behind the design oval!  The swirl pattern piece was cut with the edge die and design die.  The layers are fastened together with E-Z Runner® Permanent Strips Refillable Dispenser.    It's popped up on the card with 3D Foam Squares – White Mix . I cut  the oval center piece with die from Sweetheart Swirl out of natural paper.  It's stamped with Fallen Leaves ink using a stamp from Penny Black 'sprigs' set.  It's popped up with Thin 3D Foam Squares White Mix.

The medallion piece from Sweetheart Swirl was cut from shiny gold metallic cardstock.  I added a large pearl to the center.  Love how pretty it looks cut from the gold paper!  It's fastened with Adhesive Dots Medium Ultra Thin over three pieces of sheer ribbon, green and aqua. I've also added a bow of gold threads behind the medallion. The ribbon ends are tucked behind the gold rectangle mat.

Special Friend Birthday Card wtih Gold Accents

Today I have a Special Friend Birthday Card with Gold Accents to share.  This card showcases a die cut frame cut with S5-369 Ringlet Round from gold metallic card stock.  Corner accents were cut from the same paper using a die from S5-367 Swirl Tags. I've used navy ribbon, navy cardstock and  a grayish tan patterned background paper.

To make this card, I cut gold cardstock with S5-369 Ringlet Round using the edge die, design die and the inner edge die.  Navy silk ribbon is loosely woven through the pattern and tied at the side.  I used the inner die to cut a piece of patterned Echo Park paper for the center.  A Penny Black verse is stamped with Versafine Clair Twilight.  I added a touch of shading around the edges with Distress Pumice Stone ink. I centered the gold frame on square of patterned paper and fastened it with E-Z Runner® Micro Refillable Dispenser.  The verse is popped up and fastened with 3D Foam Squares – Black Mix.

I cut 4 pieces of the gold cardstock with one of the decorative dies from S5-367 Swirl Tags. I slipped each one over the corners and added a pearl.  These layers are fastened to navy cardstock using 

E-Z Dots® Permanent Refillable Dispenser and E-Z Runner® Ultra Refillable Dispenser. I use the Ultra on the corners and the Dots along the edges.  The next layer is same patterned paper as center, also shaded along edges with Distress Pumice Stone ink.  All are fastened to a 6 x 6 inch white card.

I added 3 pearls under verse. A gold button with pearl center is fastened over gold cord bow and over the navy bow with Adhesive Dots 3D .

Dog Gone Birthday Cards

 Hello everyone!

I actually took time to make some birthday cards last week. I played with my set of Tim Holtz Mini Cats and Dogs stamps and matching dies.  These were fun cards to put together!  I didn't have much time so I couldn't over think.  Sometimes I do better then!

Both cards are made with papers from my stash.  I'm not sure if it's current.  I wasn't particularly fond of these papers until I used them for these cards!

 

 I used Koi Watercolor Brush Pens for coloring.  I scribbled the markers on my craft mat and then used a water brush to apply color to dogs.  Each one is popped up with 3D Foam Squares by Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L.

 

 

I simply free hand cut the circle by using a die for outline.  Too lazy to get my die cut machine out! Pretty pathetic huh?

Special Birthday Wishes

Today, I have a card to share........ 

Wow!  It's been a long time since I sat down to make a card!  I've been using cards from my stash. 
I put this card together for my daughter.  Today is her birthday.   Happy birthday, Jenny! 

My card base is 5 x 7" cream card stock.  All patterned papers are by Melissa Frances including the rose sticker.  I used a new Spellbinders die, Romantic Rectangles Two, to cut the lacey edge rectangles.  The edges were inked with Distress Antique Linen and Vintage Photo. I also stamped faint script around the edges of the background paper.  I stamped "you are so special" on a narrow strip of sticker to add to the rose piece.  The embossed foil was cut and embossed with a new Spellbinders Gilded Life die, Petite Lace.  Love the lacey look!  The foil is gold.  I sanded it lightly to reveal some of the silver color.  Then I sponged Spa Blue paint over it and wiped off the paint on the embossed areas.  My card actually started with this piece!  It was an experimental piece that I really like so I found papers to go with it.  The seam binding was misted and crinkles to look old and tied into a loose bow.  I've tucked a small stick pin with a bead into the bow.

A Birthday Wish

........created for my daughter's birthday this month.  I put together the butterfly square some time ago and  never added it to a card.  The butterfly was cut with a Cuttlebug die. I used it as a mask to spray the background. Sorry, I don't remember what colors I used.  I added glitter to the edges and some gems on the butterfly body.  The background is Core'dination paper cut with Spellbinders Labels 8, embossed with Impressabilities Flourish and sanded.  The little birthday wish is from Crafty Secrets. I sprayed the white card with Glimmer Mist Marshmallow...the photo didn't pick up the shine.  A ribbon and bow finish it.

I sent off my Spellbinders final project yesterday!  Now, for the wait.  The Design Team calls will be made sometime on February 26th.  I just got an email saying it may be as late as that evening......that day will seem endless.  They will announce the new Design Team on Spellbinders' blog on February 27th.   I'll keep you posted.

A Wish

......come true......

A snowstorm too bad for travel! And I was home!

Yeah! I wanted a day off.

The good part, I had someone who could work for me so I could stay home. I didn't even try to get there...

It started with about 6-8" of snow yesterday. Very pretty snow - fluffy, sparkly and oh so white. There was hardly a breeze to move it! Amazing in SW Minnesota.

Today was a completely different story. Lots of wind to blow all that fluffy white stuff.

As you can see in my photos, visibility wasn't good. I took these photos through my window.....way too cold to go outside! I could see about .2 of a mile.

Looking out past the barn seemed to be a wall of white! The NW wind whips around the trees there.

Not much visibility on the south side of the barn either.....

So I stayed home and relaxed...pampered myself a bit.

I baked a special cake.....Raspberry Walnut Torte! Oh so good! It's one of my favorites.

The occasion???

My day to celebrate......another year, another birthday!

I spent a little time creating this afternoon.......one of my favorite things to do.

I created this for a friend but it's seems appropriate here today.

I embossed the letters in red craft foil that was already embossed with Impressabilities patterns. I rubbed the color off the letters and added a hint of color with Archival Coffee ink. I simply cut the balloons out of scraps of foil, shaped them and added color with Adirondack markers (alcohol based). They're popped up with layers of foam. I created a little shadow box out of Imaginisce scrapbook paper. The metallic accent on the edges is silver EP.

........just plain fun!

I'm hoping it gets me inspired to complete some of the projects that are due next week........

I'll need to focus this weekend!

A Special Day

Yesterday was a special day for me....my birthday. How many?

I admire her work. It's always so nicely done......well designed, neat, clean & crisp.

Elizabeth & I met at summer CHA a couple years ago. She was working in the Penny Black booth. We both felt an instant bond yet we didn't exchange any information to keep in touch. A few months later, I finally sent an email to Penny Black asking if they would contact her. They were kind enough to give me her email address. We've kept in touch ever since then....mostly through email. We see each other at CHA once or twice a year.

In 2007, we decided to apply for Ranger U's Inks & Embossing certification class. We were so excited to be accepted. What a dream come true for both of us! Robin Beam & Tim Holtz were our instructors. Yes, really Tim taught most of the class! We learned so much about all of Ranger's ink & embossing products. We had so much fun!

Elizabeth designs card samples for Penny Black, many of which are on their website. When I met her she had just made a connection with Penny Black. She is now designing a lot more of their card samples and sample boards. You can check out her bio on Penny Black here . Many of her card samples and paper craft projects have been published in card making or rubber stamping magazines.

She was so pleased when I asked her if I could post her card! Please leave her a comment. She checks the blog often.

We're looking forward to seeing each other at winter CHA in about 2 weeks. She'll be working at the Penny Black booth with a make & take as well as assisting buyers with orders. I'm going with Kathy from Fond Memories to "shop" for new products, papers and stamps. I love seeing all the new things as well as all the incredible samples. It's so inspiring!
