But It's "Not" Christmas Blog Hop

Sponsored:  As a designer for Amazing Paper Grace, I receive dies to create projects.   I'm also a designer for Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L and receive product to use for projects.

Don't you just love a die that does double duty?  We thought so!  Today we're are having a blog hop to show you how the dies in The Charming Christmas Collection can be used year round; after all, it's not Christmas.  No worries, Christmas is coming and we'll press A Charming Christmas back into service this year but in the meantime, please join us for some year-round inspiration and a giveaway at the bottom of the post.

It's Not Christmas but About A Charming Christmas

Becca designed A Charming Christmas with lovely romantic frames and shapes and with charms.  Leave the charms in the package and you have a lovely 'everyday' die that is begging to be used all year round.  Hop around with us as we reintroduce you to the non-Christmas side of A Charming Christmas.

My Project for Today
The die I'm showing today is Charming Tag Pocket.
Shapeabilities Charming Tag Pocket Etched Dies A Charming Christmas Collection by Becca Feeken

For my project today, I made a graduation card with a tiny inspiration book tucked in a pocket. This card doesn't have fold.  It certainly could be made with a folded card if you like!  The pocket is cut with the pocket die from Charming Tag Pocket die set.  I cut a narrow piece of gold metallic paper with shaped edge of the die and fastened it behind the pocket edge.  A piece of knotted gold floss is fastened across the pocket before fastening it to the card. The pocket is fastened at edges with Premium Double-Sided Tape 1/4 inch.  I shaped the pocket to make a gap rather than laying if flat before fastening the edges to allow more room for the book.

The book is made with pieces cut with the tag from Charming Tag Pocket.  Isn't it cute?  The cover is cut from patterned paper to exact size of tag with loop cut off end.  The pages are cut from text weight paper using the tag die as well.  I was able to cut 2 pieces of paper at once. I recut them by placing the tag in the die again with loop end of paper beyond the smooth end of the die.

When cut, it's a bit shorter than cover so when folded for pages, it won't extend beyond the cover edges. I cut 6 pieces of paper for pages.  When I stamped the verses, the ink showed through the paper so I fastened 2 pages together to make each page in the book.

I stamped and embellished all the pages before sewing them to the cover with sewing thread.

The gold piece was cut with the insert rectangle die from Charming Tag Pocket.  Then I cut the edge with scallop edge of pocket die. I cut off both ends of the rectangular piece to get the pieces for this page.

You can see the thread binding on this center fold page.  Since the verse was a little big for a single page, it worked well across this center page.  I fussy cut the flower.

I added some patterned paper on the next to last page along with verse stamped on patterned.  Verse piece was cut by tracing around the outer edge of the die and hand cutting it.  The verse just didn't fit on die cut piece.  I left the last page blank to write a personal message.  I tied gold floss around the spine at the back cover and knotted it at top of spine.  I fussy cut a flower to place on the cover.

Across the top of the card is band of contrast paper with gold mat showing along the edges.  The verse was stamped and heat embossed with gold embossing powder.  I fussy cut it out and also cut a gold mat to fit behind it.  It's popped up with Thin 3D Foam Squares.

What do you think?  Is this a fun way to use Charming Tag Pocket for a "not" Christmas project?
This card could easily be used for birthday, encouragement, get well.....by simply changing the greeting and verses in the book.

Have fun using your Christmas die sets in different ways!

Happy Creating!
Judy

Seuss Falls Scrapbook Page

Hello blog friends!

I decided to take a few minutes to post something!  I've got oodles of things to do but this seemed like a good choice for my time right now!!!

This is a scrapbook page I created as a Spellbinders project back in July.  In August, I moved to the Mixed Media DT and haven't done a scrapbook layout since.  I never thought I'd say this but I do miss doing layouts just a little bit!!!  (I should qualify that!  I can still do layouts on the MM DT but it's not a requirement now.)

The photos are of my grandson Logan.  Last spring, we visited a Dr. Seuss exhibit in Sioux Falls, SD hence the title "Seuss Falls".  Logan had fun posing next to the bronze statues.

I used several Spellbinders Die D-Lites on this page.  The corner scroll pieces: Corner Flourish; the piece that looks like a sign on the side: Mirror, Mirror; and the small frames layered over the photos and framing the small photo: ATC

The color combination is what I like best on this page! The red just pops against the blue!   Besides the photos of Logan, of course!

You can see this in the Spellbinders Idea Gallery HERE.

Thanks for visiting!!!
Stay tuned for a post on the 20th for sure.  I have a project on the Quietfire Design Blog as a guest designer.  I'll post a sneak peek here and link the their post.

Happy Creating!

A Scrapbook Page for Dad

Hey everyone!!!

Shock of shocks, I'm posting something!  I know I've been pretty remiss........ sorry.  I've been way busy and this got pushed to the end of my priority list.  I'm hoping to do better for 2013!

Tonight, I've been packing for CHA!  I'm excited to be heading to Anaheim tomorrow.  I'll be working in the Spellbinders booth.  Lots of work and also exciting.  This year Spellbinders is sponsoring a class for CHA.  I'll be helping with that on Friday as well as a couple other classes.  I really like helping with the classes.  I love helping others learn.  The most exciting part.....I put together the project that will be used for the class!!!!  so awesome!  I must give credit to two very talented DT members who helped with the project: Tina and Christine.  We each created a project.  Then I took bits and pieces from each project and pulled it all together.  I'll share once the class is over!  (if I can that is, I best check on that!)

So I pulled out a Spellbinders project to share with you today.   This is scrapbook page I created for my Dad.  All the patterned paper strips were embossed in various folders. Then I rubbed ink over the embossed pattern to highlight the raised areas.  All the strips were tan cardstock.  This is an easy technique, especially with any dye ink pad that has a hard surface.  I don't mind a little distressed look so if a bit of the ink strays beyond the embossing, it's okay!
Between each of the wide strips are narrow dark red strips that I also inked.  The effect is much more subtle with a matching color ink.

I had to add a touch of blue on the page to bring out the blue of Dad's eyes. I've inked the edges a bit.  I added journaling strips on blue across the bottom of the page.  I found some old buttons to add to the strips pulling out one blue and one red button.  A tag with "Love you, Dad" is the simple title.

You can find this scrapbook page in the Spellbinders Idea Gallery here!

thanks to all you loyal friends for not giving up on me!!!!

Happy crafting!

Tiny Easter Baskets

I made these tiny Easter baskets to send off to my grandkids.  I was pressed for time so these are really simple!!!  I found paper in my stash that sort of coordinated......not that the kids would care!  Each basket is just big enough for a tiny collectible stuffed animal, a couple chocolate bunnies and some M & Ms.
The main part of each basket was cut with Spellbinders S5-077 Labels Twenty-Five #5 (#1 being the smallest).  I cut 2 - 2" squares for each end and a handle that's 3/4" x 8 1/2".

You can see the pieces in this photo.  I've made score lines for folding.  Each square is scored 1/4" along two opposite sides and 3/4" on one end across the 1/4" scores.  I've notched the intersection so the pieces will fit together when folded.  One square fits at each end of the basket with the 3/4" folded edges at the bottom.
The Labels Twenty-Five is scored 3/4" from center on both sides as you see in the photo.  That area is the bottom of the basket. The ends become the sides.
Spellbinders S5-094 Labels and Tags
I used Scor-Tape™ to fasten each end in place as well as the handle.  Very simple!

I added tags with their names, each tied on with some bakers' twine.  The tags are from Spellbinders S5-094 Labels and Tags, a new set deigned by Becky Fleck.
I tucked the goodies in each basket and slipped each one inside a clear acetate bag. I knew the candies wouldn't stay in the baskets through the mail!

Wishing you all a blessed Easter!

Hello!

How time flies!  Tis the season to be busy!   There is just not enough time in the day it seems, especially to play and create!

Since I haven't created anything new for the blog, I went searching through my photos.  I found this cute layout I did for Spellbinders.

When I saw this photo, I knew I had to make a page with it!!!  What a cutie!

This is an 8 x 8" layout.  I used papers from My Mind's Eye Lost and Found Christmas.  The colors are perfect with Brecken's shirt!  The title "all BOY" and stars with circles were all cut with Spellbinder™ Presto Punch™
and punch templates.  The letters were cut with PT-F01 and PT-F02 Plain Jane Capital and Lower Case alphabets.  The stars are P3-006, Circles - P3-001.  I also used P3-009 Labels B to cut the mat under his name.  The date and his name are Cosmo Cricket Tiny Type alpabet stickers.  I copied the style to print "Doesn't that smile just say...".  A little sanding exposes the white paper core for some highlights.   This is really quite a simple layout.  I love how it turned out!!!Or is it just the photo of that cute little boy that I love?!!!  Thanks Vicki for letting me use it!

The big annoucement..........

I imagine many of you have already heard that Spellbinders announced the first round qualifiers for their 2012 Design Team today.  I made the cut!!!!  HOORAY!  Yep, I'm trying out again!  I love working with Spellbinders!  They have a fabulous group of people working for them!  I love their product!  They have an incredible current DT!!!!  Awesome designers! Love you all, ladies!!!   I could go on and on.......
Next step is a project for Round 2 due January 4th.  I'll be putting some serious thought into that project.  THe competition is really tough!

I hope to post something again soon.  No promises though.  I have lots to do yet for Christmas!  Plus a few Spellbinders projects to complete!

On a weather note!!!!   Can you believe it rained here all day?   It's December in Minnesota!  We rarely get rain this time of year!  It's usually white stuff!!!!  We sure need the rain as it's been over 4 months since we've had more than a tenth or two.  I'm hoping all the roads are dry in the morning so I don't have to drive on ice!

Take care everyone!  Thanks for stopping!!!

Autumn Card

Thinking Fall with this card!
This card is very similar to my decoratied candle shown in my post on October 18th.  Click here or scroll down a bit to see it.
I used SpellbindersS5-073 Orchard Harvest Tags and Accents to cut and emboss the frame around the verse and the foil leaves.  It's one of my favorite sets right now!!!  The verse is from an older cling stamp set by JustRite, called "A Day in the Country".  THe little leaves stamped around the verse are also from that set.  The verse is stamped on Worldwin Canvas card stock with Espresso ink.  I added the leaves with Rust, Butterscotch, and Terra Cotta inks.  I used my finger to dab some matching ink onto each one.  Then I used Antique Linen Distress ink over all of it.
The frame is cut and embossed from a My Mind's Eye brown paper.  I sanded the embossed areas to reveal the inner core color of the paper.  Then I rubbed Vintage Photo ink over it.  This is one of my favorite techniques!  It's a great way to accent the embossed pattern from the Spellbinders die template.  I especially like the dot pattern along the edge of this one!
My card is cut with Spellbinders LF-246 Grand Labels Eleven.  Easy to do!  Simply fold a piece of card stock slightly bigger than the die template.  Align the fold along an inner straight edge on the die template and tape in place and cut with the Grand Calibur™.  I've also used Grand Labels Eleven to cut a frame of brown paper.  I've nested 2 sizes and cut and embossed them at the same time.  I cut the check paper with the bigger die template used for the frame.  A perfect fit behind the frame!  THe same small leaves are stamped on the check paper with Espresso ink.
The foil leaves are cut from Spellbinders™ Precious Metals Premium Craft Foil.  I've used gold and copper color.  I like to adhere the foil to scrap card stock before cutting.  It makes the shapes stronger so they aren't bent as easily. I use Adhesive Sheets by Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L.  It works well and doesn't gum up my die templates.
After cutting and embossing the leaves, I lightly rubbed my solvent stamp cleaner over the embossing.  The solvent takes off the color. It's safest to use it on a Q-tip with a very light touch.  The solvent tends to bleed or run and suddenly a big spot of color is gone!!!   I shaped the leaves and fastened them to the card with Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L 3D Foam Squares.  I added a button with bakers twine and distressed with Vintage Photo ink.  More bakers twine wraps around the card front under the frame and leaves.  THe ends are hidden behind the frame!
This frame and leaves would be great on the front of a journal.  Or maybe a wooden box.  A scrapbook page!
Thanks for looking!!!
Have fun creating!

Today, I have 2 projects to share!  A card and a little notebook!

I worked with Spellbinders S5-074 Retro Mod Clocks and a coordinating stamp set from Unity Stamp Co., also called Retro Mod Clocks.  The stamps add such great detail to the clocks.

First, I put together this card......

Do you see what I mean about the detail on the clock?  All the scrolls and shape lines!
First, I stamped the clock with black ink and clear heat embossed it.  Then I aligned the matching Spellbinders S5-074 Retro Mod Clocks die template and taped it in place.   I cut it out using my Grand Calibur Machine.  I also had the clock face die template in place to cut out the clock face at the same time.  I stamped the clock face again on cream card stock with black ink and also clear heat embossed it.  I used the matching clock face die template to cut it out.  Of course, it fits perfectly in the clock!
For the card background, I used just a portion of Spellbinders LF-190 Grand Labels Four #6 (#1 being the smallest) to cut the shaped background from My Mind's Eye Lost & Found Christmas "trees" paper.  I made the same cut on black card stock.  I matted it behind slightly offset to add the narrow border.
Below the clock, I created a border with at strip of My Mind's Eye Lost & Found Christmas "Boughs" paper and black card stock.  I cut one edge of the black card stock with Spellbinders E8-002 Classic Bracket Edgeabilities.  It makes a great border to define the space for my verse.  I also added another strip with the bracket edge at the bottom.  I added some tiny dots of black Enamel Accents across the wider strip.
This card is 3 1/2 x 8 1/2".

For my second project, I dressed up a Target notebook .

This is what it looked like before.......

and the the notebook after........

I added a clock and a verse to the cover!  Really quite simple and quick!

The clock was stamped and heat embossed with gold embossing powder on black card stock.  I cut out the clock using the matching die template from Spellbinders Retro Mod Clocks.  This time I didn't cut out the clock face.  Instead, I stamped it again on cream card stock, cut it out with the matching Spellbinders die template and glued it over the black clock.   I used a Versamark marker to ink a few details on the clock and then heat embossed those spots with clear embossing powder. It adds a few shiny accents!
I stamped the verse with black ink and clear heat embossed it.
I inked the cover a little with Distress Vintage Photo to add a little more color.   I inked the back cover, too.
On the inside cover, I stamped another verse.
A quick and inexpensive project when you need just a little gift!

Thanks so much for stopping!!!

Remember to leave a comment for a chance to win a Unity stamp set and matching Spellbinders die template set!

Embellished Frame

This is a Dollar Tree frame! At least, it started that way!

To start, I painted the edges of the frame black.  Then I adhered a piece of brown designer paper over the front.  I liked the texture  and subtle color variation better than painting it.  I added some Distress Walnut Stain and Black Soot ink to it, too!
Next, I cut and embossed a frame of black glossy card stock using Spellbinders LF-347 Grand Labels Twenty-Three #4 and #6 (the smallest die template is #1).  I sanded all the embossed edges.  I rubbed Distres Vintage Photo ink into the sanded areas.  The core of the black glossy paper is white. After sanding the white core is exposed and it's very absorbent.  I love the antique look it creates when the ink is added!  Almost like a well worn leather!  I added a tiny gold paper fastener in each corner and then glued it to the frame.
For the gold accents, I used gold craft foil that was adhered to card stock.  I like to use card stock on the back of foil to give it more strength.  It's not as easily dented or bent.  A good use for all those odd colors of card stock!   I use Adhesive Sheet from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L to adhere the two together.  So easy, cuts without gumming the die templates!
I used Spellbinders S5-071 Twisted Metal Tags and Accents to cut and emboss the foil.  Each corner piece is the exact cut piece from the die template.  The other pieces were cut and embossed from the same corner shape, then cut with a scissors to use just a portion of it.  They fit so well into the Labels Twenty-Three shape!  Last of all, there's 2 tiny pieces tucked under the Labels Twenty-Three at the center top and bottom.  Each is a part of one larger piece from Twisted Metal Tags and Accents, just cut in half and glued behind the border.
That's all there is to it!!! Really dresses up this frame, don't you think?!

Of course, the photo of my grandsons is really the best part!!!

Sarah and Grandpa Scrapbook Page

This is such a great photo of my dad and daughter that I naturally had to use it for a scrapbook page!!!

I ceeated this page for Spellbinders. As you can see there are several different die cut shapes on it!  I used mostly papers from GCD, Donna Salazar's Antiquities collection except for the ruler border and mat behind the photo.
I started with a light color 12 x 12" page.  This one has some gears and a figure of a gentleman along the left side.  I incorporated that into my page and added to it.
My photo is 5 x 7".  I've framed it by cutting Spellbinders LF-347 Grand Labels Twenty Three from MME Holly Jolly "Deck the Halls" paper. (I liked the color and the holly really doesn't show!!!)  There's a light colored mat at the top of the photo.  I liked the light paper next to the light area of the photo, leaving the darker area of the photo against the darker mat. It just seemed to make the photo pop!   I've added some scrolly pieces to soften the corners. These were cut with Spellbinders S5-071 Twisted Metal Tags and Accents (one of my favorite sets!).  The lighter ones have been stenciled through the die template before removing the paper with Distress Pumice Stone ink. To get the lighter edge on the darker ones, I've layered  and glued 2 pieces together, one light and one dark, offsetting them slightly.  To one top corner, I added some gears. All the gears were cut with Spellbinders S5-048 Sprightly Sprockets.  I placed my photo in the upper corner to allow some of the images on the background page to show along the left and lower edge.
My border started with a piece of ruler paper from Authentique Blissful "Prosperity".  I added a "lace" edge which is actually paper cut with Spellbinders S5-063 Lace Doily Accents.  I crumpled it a bit to look more distressed.  It's pieced behind one of the flowers.   The border actually threads through the biggest gear.  The rest are layerd over the top.  I've mixed in a few flowers with button centers.  These were cut with Spellbinders S4-352 Spiral Blossom Two.  The smaller ones are coiled a bit tighter than the bigger one.  I smashed them with my hand, more distressed and flatter for the page!  There's also some more scrolly pieces tucked under the ruler, too.
"you & me" was cut with Spellbinders PP-001 Presto Punch machine and punch templates PT-F01 Plain Jane capital and PT-F02 Plain Jane lower case (ampersand from upper case).  "G'PA" was cut and embossed with Spellbinders LF-003 Donna's Alphas and sanded.
I added the names and a date with a fine tip permanent brown marker.
My thoughts as I incorporated gears and flowers plus lace was that the gears and ruler fit my dad.  He's a farmer and constantly seems to be fixing something, sometimes gears!  The flowers and lace fit add a femine touch for Sarah!  Using the coordinating papers pulls them all together!

Thanks for visiting!
