A Pocket Card of Wishes

Here's a pocket card I made for Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L.

I took a mini class from Kat Kirby to learn how to make the basic pocket which she likes to embellish with collage and more. Instead of collage, I chose a pretty scrapbook paper and then made coordinated tags and bookmark to tuck in the pockets.
Lots of details about how to make it on Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Blog.

Brushstroke Flower Sympathy Card

I finally tried my Sizzix Brushstroke Flowers 3 die to make two sympathy cards. I'm super happy with how it turned out!  I also stamped and inked the flap of  an envelope to coordinate.

If you follow me on Instagram or my Facebook page, I posted it there last week

I cut both flowers from heavy watercolor paper.  Then I painted all the parts with watercolors.  They are my "go to" product right now!

The background is a combination of several stamps.  I used Tim Holtz' Craze and Planks (craze stamp) and Architecture plus script and splatters from The Poinsettia stamped with Versafine Clair Medieval Blue and Monarch. Next,  I colored over the stamping with watercolors.  Once it was dry, I rubbed on Distress inks Chipped Sapphire around the edges and Seedless Preserves towards the window.  The gold lines are drawn with a Signo gold pen and a ruler.

The sympathy verse is stamped on white card stock with Versafine Onyz Black (used because its so good for details) and heat embossed with gold embossing powder. I rubbed Chipped Sapphire ink over it until I got the color I wanted and then buffed ink off the letters with towel.  It's popped up with Scrapbook Adhesives 3D Foam Squares.

I used Distress Seedless Preserves and Chipped Sapphire inks to color the ribbon by rubbing it right on each pad to pick up some color.  Then I misted it with water and rolled the ribbon in my hands to distribute the color.  I dried it with my heat tool.

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

I chose a Whimsy Stamps red rubber stamp called "The Mailbox".  So appropriate for me having worked so many years for the post office!

I stamped the image on watercolor paper and used watercolors to color it.  By using Thin 3D

Foam Squares to fasten the matted image, it adds a bit of dimension to the card.

The verse is from Whimsy Clear Stamp Set "Enjoy The Journey".  It's popped up with Thin 3D

Foam Squares at top and 3D Foam Squares stacked with Thin 3D Foam Squares at the

bottom.

That allows it to lay flat as it laps over the image which is already raised and also fastens to the card front which isn't raised. It's easy to create the amount of dimension by layering different 3D Foam Squares.

There are lots more details about making this card on Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Blog today.

A Sewn Tapes Handmade Book

I imagine most of you have seen pictures of this handmade book on FB or IG but just in case a few have missed it, I'm posting it here.

With all the online art classes available since the pandemic, I discovered  a class by Ali Manning of Vintage Page Designs.  It was a week long class for making a Coptic sewn book.  I loved it!  I've always enjoyed making books of some sort. (I'll share the books I made for that class later)

Since the class, I joined the Ali's Handmade Book Club.  Every month she shares directions for making a different book.  I'm enjoying learning different book binding techniques.

This is the first book I made since joining the club.  The bookbinding technique is sewn tapes as the stitches cross over the tapes.  The tapes fasten to the cover through slits on the front and are glued to it on the back. End papers cover the tapes on the inside.

I used pieces from a wall paper border to cover the front and back covers. The tapes are twill tape.
It's sewn with linen thread.

The pages are inexpensive mixed media paper.
I didn't quite expect it to turn out so well so I started with low cost supplies.
The wallpaper border is from the thrift store.  It blended well with the twill tape that I had on hand just waiting to be used!

Inside the front and back covers are pale green papers. These cover the inside of the covers and fasten near the spine to the first page of the book.  I cut pieces of paper to fit around the tape ends and behind the end papers so that tapes barely show through the end paper.

Thanks for stopping!

Judy

A Mini Journal from Upcycled Packaging

I posted a Mini Journal on Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L blog today. Lots of details and step out photos there.

It's an upcycle/recycle project using packaging materials.  I recently received a package in the mail in a bright pink bubble mailer.  Inside, the contents were in a bright blue plastic mailer bag.  My mind immediately started to think of how I could upcycle the mailers. They make a fun journal!

Whenever I get Kraft paper packing in a box, I have a hard time throwing it away!  Recently, I ironed several pieces to use some day.  Well, I used them for pages in this mini journal.

I'm really please with how it turned out!  It's a small journal filled with 36 Kraft and yellow notebook pages.  A very flexible little book! A fun notebook!

And inside the front cover, I added this Keepsake Envelope to hold paper clips or whatever.

You'll find all the details for making it on Scrapbook Adhesives blog post.

Thanks for visiting!

Stencils and Watercolor Play

Last week one evening, I tried watercolor with stencils. I laid out some stencils on watercolor paper and colored them with watercolors.  Pure experimentation!

I used a large 9x12 stencil by Pam Carriker with a small piece of watercolor paper to get just a portion of this face.  This photo shows stencil in place after I washed on color.

Here's what it looked like after removing the stencil. I really like the face!

I decided to play and just let go and color it with watercolor !  I like watercolor but I'm still learning how to use it.  Not sure where I'll go with this next.  I may add it to an art journal with more stamping and some collage....

I also worked with this Icelandic church stencil by Tina Walker.

I controlled the watercolor more with this than the face so it wasn't so wet.  In this photo, stencil is in place, it's wet and set aside to dry.

After drying, it looked like this.  I really like all the detail that came through even with watercolor!

But then since I was playing, I added more watercolor above the church and washed light brown over the ground.  Now, looking at the photos, I prefer it as it looked after stencil and before I added more color.  Either way, I really like this stencil!

It was fun art experimenting!
