Turquoise Heart Charm Bracelet

Today, I have a bracelet to show you with one of the new bezels.......

a heart charm. I love the shape of it!!!!   This one is the smallest heart in the set of MB1-005 Hearts One - Bronze.  The same size is also available in a set of five, MB1-505 Hearts One - BR 5PK. 

My bracelet is copper color.  The bezel was bronze. I wanted the bezel to be copper!  So I used a combination of products to make it copper colored.  I started with a copper nail polish.  Then I added a patina paint.  Lastly, I used copper Baroque Art™ Gilders Paste.  This is a new product to me.  It's almost like paste shoe polish.  It adds a wonderful faux metallic finish to paper, wood, metal, clay, and more.    (It's the same product I used on the tag I posted last week.)  I'm certain I'll be using it on more projects!!!
Okay, back to the heart bezel.....  The turquoise heart is cut from Shimmer Sheetz by Elizabeth Crafts Design.  It's a mylar type product.  I cut out the heart with MD1-005 Hearts One die template #1 (#1 being the smallest).    A perfect fit for the bezel!!!  So easy!
Next, I embossed a portion of a flower on the heart with Spellbinders EL-005 Splendid M-Bossabilities™ folder.  I sanded it lightly to reveal a silver color.  I added a little pink gem to the center.  I also cut a heart the same size from craft foam.  I glued it in the bezel with the turquoise heart over it. I wanted the turquoise heart to be closer to the surface so the foam is just a spacer. 
Finally, I filled the bezel with Ice Resin!!!  That's the magic!  Crystal clear jewelers' grade resin!  It really makes the mylar pop in this heart.  My Ice Resin was starting to set up when I poured this heart which is why there are tiny bubbles in the resin.  Normally, I would have been frustrated by that but I like the bubbles in this charm!

 
I made the bracelet with chain I found at a craft store.  It's about 7 1/2" long.  I added a toggle clasp to the chain ends.  The heart is connected to the bracelet with a link from the chain. 
Really, this isn't very hard!  If the ICE Resin scares you, there are other products that you can use such as UTEE or Glossy Accents.  A little different look that's all.

An Embossed and Gilded Tag

I finally took time this evening to make something just for my blog!!!  It's been a very long time.......  Thanks and big hugs to all my loyal followers who haven't given up on me!!!

So tonight I set out to do a quick tag..... 

The embossing was quick!  The rest was a bit more involved!

I used one of Spellbinders ™ new 3D M-Bossabilities ™ folders to emboss a manilla tag!  The embossing is amazing!  Very deep!  This pattern is E3D-005 Ornamental Swirls.  The folder embosses a 5 x 7" area.  I used just the bottom of it for my tag.  At the top I embossed lines using just a portion of EL-026 Framed Petite Labels (not 3D).  Okay, that was the easy part!!!

Next, I rubbed on Baroque Art Gilders Paste.  I just recently added a few of these to my stash.  The shine is amazing after buffing. I don't think they were exactly developed for paper but they work! 

I started with Patina.

 

Then I added Blue Iris......

 

Pretty cool!  Except I didn't exactly like the tag color showing in the deep areas of the embossing.  So I decide to try Tattered Angels Pomegranate Glimmer Mist over the tag.  The Gilders Paste is a waxy product so I expected it to repel the Glimmer Mist.

It did repel the color in some areas.  Other areas absorbed more than I wanted.  The question: Start over or keep adding color?   I added more color!!

I dried the Glimmer Mist.  Then I added more Gilders Paste.  I added Antique Gold next.  Then more Iris Blue and even a touch of Copper.  I kept rubbing on color, buffing it and adding more until it was "okay".  I needed to get it done so I could go to bed!  LOL!

Once I added the ribbon and tag, I loved the colors!

The frame part of the tag was cut from white cs.  I sprayed it with Pomegranate Glimmer Mist and added a touch of Iris Blue Gilders Paste around the edges.  The greeting from Quietfire Designs is stamped on pale sage card stock and glued behind.  Both tags are from Spellbinders S4-392 Framed Tags One.  Love these tags because there's a cut out for each one that's also a tag in itself.  You can see the set here. 

The sheer ribbon is from May Arts.  I tied the tag on with gold thread. 

The color is wonderful but the most amazing part is the detail and incredible dimensional effect of the embossing created with the 3D M-Bossabilities folder!  You will love these!!!

A Scrapbook Page for Dad

Hey everyone!!!

 

Shock of shocks, I'm posting something!  I know I've been pretty remiss........ sorry.  I've been way busy and this got pushed to the end of my priority list.  I'm hoping to do better for 2013!

 

Tonight, I've been packing for CHA!  I'm excited to be heading to Anaheim tomorrow.  I'll be working in the Spellbinders booth.  Lots of work and also exciting.  This year Spellbinders is sponsoring a class for CHA.  I'll be helping with that on Friday as well as a couple other classes.  I really like helping with the classes.  I love helping others learn.  The most exciting part.....I put together the project that will be used for the class!!!!  so awesome!  I must give credit to two very talented DT members who helped with the project: Tina and Christine.  We each created a project.  Then I took bits and pieces from each project and pulled it all together.  I'll share once the class is over!  (if I can that is, I best check on that!)

 

So I pulled out a Spellbinders project to share with you today.   This is scrapbook page I created for my Dad.  All the patterned paper strips were embossed in various folders. Then I rubbed ink over the embossed pattern to highlight the raised areas.  All the strips were tan cardstock.  This is an easy technique, especially with any dye ink pad that has a hard surface.  I don't mind a little distressed look so if a bit of the ink strays beyond the embossing, it's okay!

Between each of the wide strips are narrow dark red strips that I also inked.  The effect is much more subtle with a matching color ink.

 

I had to add a touch of blue on the page to bring out the blue of Dad's eyes. I've inked the edges a bit.  I added journaling strips on blue across the bottom of the page.  I found some old buttons to add to the strips pulling out one blue and one red button.  A tag with "Love you, Dad" is the simple title.

Send Some Love to Newtown CT

Hello blog friends!!!

I have an Newtown, Connecticut address where anyone can send cards or notes of condolence, words of comfort and kindness for anyone affected by the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School last week. I think we've all been touched by it in some way. I know how much many of you like to make and send cards. Here's an opportunity to reach out with a handmade card or note.

Finalists will be asked to mail in their final original project to the Spellbinders office. Original projects must be received by end of day, Friday, January 4, 2013.

A celebrity panel of judges will review the twelve (12) final submissions and narrow it down to three (3) winners. Winners will be announced on Friday, January 11, 2013. There will be one (1) Grand Prize winner of a $5,000 prize package and the project will be featured at the Spellbinders booth at the Craft and Hobby Association show on January 12, 2013. There will be one (1) 2nd prize winner of a $1,000 prize package and featured on the Spellbinders blog. A Quick Christmas Hanger

Crafting with my granddaughter

My granddaughter, Alyssa, and I spent Sunday afternoon crafting! There was a blizzard raging outside but we were cozy inside.

This is one of our projects - doll shoes made of Crayola Color Wonder air dry clay.



Our inspiration was sparked by a need to use some clay. Otherwise it would all dry up since the package was open, according to Alyssa. We powdered the doll's feet and shaped the clay around her feet. Then we gently pulled the shoes off to dry. Alyssa added the "buttons" of clay and soles later.


The shoes are so cute!!!
Alyssa thought of adding the dots and colored soles!

We also did some sewing (mostly I sewed and Alyssa helped with fabrics and patterns). She went home with new pajamas, socks, blanket and pillow for her doll.



We sure enjoyed that blizzard! It gave us more time to play!

A Love Wedding Card

Today, I shared this soft shimmer love card on Julianna Hudgins' Positively Me Blog! 

 

This card features flowers from Spellbinders Jewel Flowers and Flourishes and Jewel Framed Sentiments.  I've used pearlescent off-white card stock for the frame and flowers.  The pearlescent paper is one of my favorites becasue it cuts so well, comes out of the dies easily and the best: has a beautiful shimmer!
