Lady in Brown

I created this vintage card using stamps from Artistic Outpost's Distant Generations stamp set. My initial goal was to make a Mother's Day card. I couldn't quite find a way to add an appropriate greeting. In the end, it became a vintage lady card!

My inspiration was a new Spellbinders' die: Labels Three. I cut a frame using a Labels Three die & a circle die out of some patterned paper that I had created with a Butterfly Impressabilities used as a stamp.

Here's how I created the paper: I laid the Impressabilities over a piece of paper & sprayed it with Tattered Angels Tattered Leather Glimmer mist. Then I picked up the Impressabilities plate, turned it over & quickly pressed it onto a blue green piece of paper (actually the back of a Whitewash Co'ordinations paper). The result was a wonderful "stamped" image of the Butterfly Impressabilities. I really like how the Glimmer Mist spread before it dried so the design is blurred. It seemed perfect for the vintage look I was creating.

Once I had this frame, I chose the lady from Artistic Outpost's Distant Generations stamp plate (stamped with Adirondack Espresso). This image is part of a larger stamp with a gentleman & a child. I wanted to use just the lady but my original frame showed some of the child. Now, what to do? That led to cutting another frame of dark green using the same size Labels Three die with a smaller circle center. Better! I liked it but the circle wasn't quite small enough. I cut another circle mat out of pearlescent dark brown paper to mat under the dark green. Perfect!

The lady is colored with Copic markers. Since the hat on my lady didn't stamp quite solid brown, I went over it with my Copic marker. I added a hat band and a tiny paper flower also colored with Copic markers.

What next?

I then stamped the scrolly corner pattern on a square of ivory paper using Adirondack Pesto ink. I love how this turned out! A little Distress Antique Linen & Vintage photo around the edges.........perfect! I added pearlescent brown & dark green mats.

I added some little brads to the corners of the frame. My brads weren't quite dark enough so I colored them with a dark brown Copic marker. The frame is mounted with foam tape for dimension.

At that point, I left it overnight. The rest of the design just wasn't working. The next day I chose a card size and decided to use the same Co'ordinations paper for the background. I added Distress inks to the edges.

I punched the lace edge - Martha Stewart punch - out of the dark brown pearlescent paper and also out of ivory paper. I layered them and added a dark green piece that just peeks out between the points on the edge. I added a strip of the patterned paper and a satin ribbon. I colored the ribbon with Pesto ink.........it started as tan. Some little brads to compliment the brads in the frame were my final touch.

What do you think?

Smiles to you........I'd love to read your comments!

Einstein and Family

Einstein and family........now that's a combination!

Today, I added these 2 cards to the Artistic Outpost blog....

Not Everything Counts is created from the Geek Is Chic stamp set.
Since I really like the Einstein postage image, I started with it using StazOn on glossy paper. I added color simply by picking up Adirondack Denim, Stream or Oregano ink on my finger and rubbing it on the image, then buffing to bring back the paper shine.
It's really hard to see it but the background is the numbers stamp with scattered ruler & compass images added. The verse is stamped in Black Versafine & embossed with clear to make it stand out. The embossing also protects the verse when I add inks to the background. I added white accents with the Ranger Inkessentials white gel pen. Do this step last otherwise the white ink smears. The ribbon was black & cream.......it didn't really fit with the card colors but I liked the style so I colored it with Copic markers. It's amazing how well they color ribbon!
Familias was designed using stamps from Distant Generations.
I started with the frame on this card. I had this frame already cut.....it started as white with orange ink rubbed over the embossed areas. Sure doesn't look like that now, does it? I rubbed various Distress inks into it until I liked the look. There's even a little bit of gold ink over the embossed parts. The "photo" is stamped on glossy white paper with black StazOn. The image didn't stamp perfectly but I decided it fit with the vintage look I wanted. I rubbed Antique Linen & Vintage Photo over it. The frame seemed to need a bit more dimension so I added the black glossy frame. The scrolly design (same stamp set) is stamped with Memento brown ink on paper by Imaginisce that has a faint script pattern. The other paper is by Graphic 45. I used Distress inks on both papers after I put them together. I colored the ribbon with brown Copic markers. "Familias" is stamped with black & embossed with clear. Then I cut it out with a Spellbinders ribbon slide. I trimmed off the ribbon loops and distressed it. I added a black edge with a marker and distressed it more. Then I embossed it completely with clear powder. Because the Distress inks stay moist a long time, the clear powder stuck easily.
Until next time....make time to create! It nourishes the spirit.
